Recovery scams after an investment loss

A second approach can target the same loss
Someone who knows your broker, payment or previous complaint may still be an impostor. Treat unsolicited offers to recover funds for an advance charge cautiously. Knowledge of your case, official-looking stationery and claimed access to frozen money do not establish authority or recovery capability.
Check the proposed service
Verify any claimed lawyer, regulator or regulated claims firm through its independent professional or official register. Do not reveal banking credentials or pay a fee simply to release purported recovered money. Genuine recovery options depend on facts, timing and jurisdiction; neither TradAdvise nor a paid report guarantees recovery.
Protect the case information
Keep reports and transaction records private. A new contact should explain how they obtained your details and the exact service offered, but their answer still needs verification. Do not assume a caller is official because they mention an earlier complaint. Report impersonation using the genuine institution’s independently found channel.
Ask for a concrete service description
Before considering any assistance, ask who will perform the work, their legal identity, professional status, scope, total charges and proposed method. Vague claims of special regulator access or guaranteed recovery do not answer those questions. Verify any professional registration independently and check whether the person and website actually belong to that professional. A genuine registration for an unrelated business or service is not evidence that the recovery offer is authorised.
Watch for recycled pressure
A recovery contact may use the same urgency, secrecy and emotional leverage as the original offer. They may say a deadline will forfeit recovered money or that another payment proves ownership. Do not let knowledge of your loss substitute for verification. Take the proposal outside the conversation and discuss it with an independent trusted person. Avoid sending the full original case file until the recipient and necessary purpose are established.
Report the new approach separately
Keep the recovery contact’s website, messages, payment instructions and claimed relationship with authorities. If you report it, identify it as a later approach linked to an earlier loss, rather than merging the two operators without evidence. Contact your payment provider promptly if you made another transfer. TradAdvise may document the warning indicators, but its investigation report is an information product and never a promise to retrieve funds or negotiate a settlement.
